About the Artist

James Donovan was born in Aberdare, South Wales in 1974 and educated at Swansea Institute, graduating in 1997 with a 1st Class BA (Hons) in Visual Arts.

His use of symbolism can be both comical yet poignant. It contains stoic, respectful and personal narratives that have a sense of escapism and peace.

James was the recipient of the Sir Leslie Joseph Young Artist of the Year in 1998. His paintings have been exhibited widely across Wales and in the rest of the UK during a career that began when he was still a degree student.
